Beautiful ministry in Haiti

Orphanage ministry in Haiti

FEP orphanage ministry in Haiti

Two years ago, I had the opportunity to travel with my friends to visit the orphanage ministry in Haiti where their daughter, Ashley,  worked.   After a long day of traveling, which had left me hot, tired, and somewhat motion sick, we drove through the metal gates of the FEP orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti.  I had my journal in hand to capture my first impression, and I wrote, “The orphanage is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!”

At home, later, I read my journal notes aloud as my husband flipped through the pictures.  At my first picture of the orphanage, I read… “The orphanage is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!”  And, we looked at pictures of a plain cement block building, a gravel and cement playground area, peeling but cheerful paint, barred windows.  This building was not going to make the pages of House Beautiful anytime soon.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  In that case, a video is probably worth ten thousand.  But, let me tell you, neither a picture nor a video can truly capture “life”.  And, it occurred to me that, while the orphanage building was fine, adequate, functional… it was the “life” in and around the building that struck me as truly absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  The shy girls running up to see new visitors and old friends, then running and hiding.  The bolder girls coming close for a hug. The cool shade and the blazing sun. The older girls braiding the hair of the young ones.  The colorful laundry being hung on lines and laid on roofs to dry.  The deep Caribbean voices singing songs that echoed in the halls.  The smells of a home-cooked feast for weary travelers. The diligent women, managing it all.  This was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!.

Ashley is still ministering in this beautiful place, and in order to  continue to provide enough healthy food and quality education for these girls, they need more prayers, more monthly sponsor support, and more one time gifts for their school.  Please prayerfully watch this well produced  video and look beyond the video to picture the “life” that it portrays.  Many of the children in this video are true orphans, with no known living family.  Some have been given to the orphanage by families that can’t stretch to feed one more.  A few were abandoned to die at the local hospital.  Through the ministry of the orphanage, Ashley,  and Hearts and Hands of Heroes, they are being fed, clothed, educated, trained in the Bible, and prepared for work.  Can you help?
